I just recently joined Listal, and I want to know how to take full advantage of what the site can do.
Anything that you can suggest will be very helpful.

1. Keep a record of watched, want to watch, bought movies/tv/books/games/etc.
2. Create a list to share your interest/s
3. Start a thread to get a conversation going
4. Upload some hard to find images to share
5. Improve others lists by making suggestions
Now for examples and some self-promotion ;-)

Welcome to Listal, Nonfictionguy has a good of things to do there, to really customize your lists there is guide here: www.listal.com/help/html

You can't do it from the general "Forum Search". Click on a department (Movies, Off Topic, Listal Feedback, etc.) and start a thread from there.
That is, I assume if you're having problems it's because you're trying to do it from the master search.

It should. Requiring the thread-starter to specify which sub-forum it goes in before posting, of course! Kind of like how you can create a list from your personal lists and then you choose a category.
Glad we could help.

No problem. :-D I would like to add an actual smiley face, but I don't know how.

Listal doesn't turn smiley text into mini smiley images like on most forums. As far as I know, it was built from the ground up and doesn't rely on a pre-made server.
