He is stated by many to be the "Godfather Of Grime".
Quite possibly the key U.K. grime player though he called his knotty, brittle style "eski" or "eskibeat" producer and MC Wiley (born RICHARD COWIE) was a member of Pay As U Go Cartel and was later a founding member of Roll Deep.
Though he released a pair of strong albums during the 2000s, Treddin' on Thin Ice (XL, 2004) and Playtime Is Over (Big Dada, 2007), much of his best work as a producer trickled out as white-label vinyl releases and free downloads.
He made a controversial crossover move with his fifth album, I Can See Clearly Now; released on Asylum in 2008, it featured production input from Mark Ronson and Arthur Baker, among others, and the bouncy single "Wearing My Rolex" reached number two on the U.K. singles chart. In addition to being prolific as a producer and solo artist, Wiley continuously assisted the careers of producers and MCs younger than him, including onetime Roll Deep partner Dizzee Rascal.
He set up the A-List label for the development of young talent, as well as Elusive Entertainment, where he issued 2011's Chill Out Zone. However the album was released independently by Wiley on 12 July 2011 for digital download. Two singles were released in preparation for the album: "Seduction" featuring Alexa Goddard and "If I Could" featuring Ed Sheeran.
Evolve Or Be Extinct is the ninth studio album by British grime artist Wiley. The album was released on January 19, 2012 as a double-disc album. Two singles were released from the album, "Link Up" and "Boom Blast". The album entered the UK Albums Chart at number 97 on January 22, 2012, then climbed up to number 86 in the UK Charts in its second week.
In 2012 he released his 9th studio album "Evolve Or Be Extinct" on his 33rd birthday, 19 January, which peaked at 86 in the UK Albums Chart. In February, Wiley and fellow Roll Deep member Manga released a music video for Valentine's Day, called "Hottie". A week later, Wiley released another two music videos from Evolve or Be Extinct in two consecutive days, "Evolve or Be Extinct" and "Daiquiris". A month later, he released another music video called "Hover Board". Two weeks later, Wiley released a music video for "Only Human", with Cashtastic & Tereza Deizz.
