In 1946, Rita Hayworth graced the sets of "The Lady of Shanghai," directed by her spouse, Orson Welles. Their marriage, which began in 1943, was tempestuous, and the film's production bore witness to a fleeting reconciliation before their eventual parting in 1947.

Acapulco was chosen for some pivotal scenes, and the grand yacht "Zaca" was chartered for sequences set against Mexico's enchanting coast. Not just any yacht, but the pride of actor Errol Flynn, who took the helm between scenes.

With such a stellar ensemble, Rita's birthday was celebrated aboard in style. Among those present were Flynn, his young bride Nora Eddington, Rita, Orson, an unidentified gentleman, and William Castle, who lent his pen to the screenplay. On her 28th, Rita embraced a fresh look—bleached, shortened locks for her character. A stark contrast to her iconic moment from "Gilda" that same year—the unforgettable, "Are you decent?" scene, widely regarded as one of cinema's most memorable.
