In 1987, L’Wren Scott and Karl Lagerfeld first met when she was cast to walk for the presentation of his AW 1987 couture collection for Chanel at the Grand Palais in Paris. Being her first major runway appearance, L’Wren frequently referenced this as being one of the most pivotal moments in her entire career.
Thirteen or so years later, when he began focusing on his career as a photographer, L’Wren would then be hired as his main stylist. Together they worked on countless projects such as, The Portrait of Dorian Gray — which saw their mutual rendition of Oscar Wilde’s ‘The *Picture* of Dorian Gray,’ articulated through fashion imagery.
They also collaborated on numerous stories for Interview Magazine. Most notably, for the special issue, ‘Interview Goes to Paris with Karl.’ Inspired by Yves Klein’s ‘Untitled Anthropometry’ (1961), the story starring Mariacarla Boscono was entirely monochromatic blue.
