In a beautiful and touching tribute for the June 2021 issue of The Sunday Times Style, Daphne Guinness spoke about her dear friend L’Wren. In honor of Daphne’s birthday (which was on November the 9th), here are a few favorite excerpts ~
—— “One of the fondest memories Daphne Guinness has of L'Wren Scott is of leaving the Met Gala back in 2008. Guinness, attending in her capacity as fashion template, aristo heiress and all-round oddball muse, wanted to walk the few streets back to her hotel, clad in a full-length
blue-sequin creation made by her friend Scott — Scott was horrified - why wouldn't she take one of the limos parked outside? Even now Guinness chuckles to think of it. "I mean, if you're going to go ten blocks, just walk," she shrugs in her clipped tones, zooming in from her hotel in LA. — She told Scott she should just walk her home in her eye-wateringly expensive outfit. "I said, Come on, it'll be fun!’ And you know-it was," she sighs -much more fun than anything in the actual Met Gala, she admits. "After two blocks L'Wren was in hysterics. It was actually the best part of the night."
—— “Her fondest memories are of visiting Scott at Jagger’s French Country Home, La Fourchette, ‘watching old movies and going to the market, and getting flowers and driving around the countryside. Oh, It was so much fun”
—— “She was a unique person,” Guinness says now, as well as a, “brilliant designer. Very complex, beautiful, loving, very very intelligent, and a perfectionist…” -Daphne Guinness as told to Louise Wise for The Sunday Times Style || June, 2021
