Before L’Wren Scott launched her inaugural collection, ‘Little Black Dress,’ she was inspired by an event that would change the trajectory of her career forever.
—— It was 2005 and Mick Jagger was nominated for a Golden Globe. “I had avoided practically every other event,” she would tell a media outlet in 2006, “this time I figured I better go as the supportive other half.” This would be one of L’Wren’s first times walking the red carpet herself. After years of making one of a kind gowns for her clients, as well as dressing them in the best designers, it was her turn. Only this time, she wasn’t able to find the perfect dress.
—— “I was in shock,” she told W magazine. She just simply couldn’t find a little black dress. Something that should have been so simple, was proving to be a challenge.
—— L’Wren would decide to make her dress for the Golden Globes from a bolt of black silk crepe fabric she had laying around (and she would make the dress the eve before the event!)
—— The result was so remarkable and L’Wren looked so incredibly beautiful that she would find herself on many best dressed lists from the evening. André Talley would even tell Vanity Fair years later that the first time he saw the dress he was absolutely certain, “it was a Chanel,” as attributed to it’s impeccable cut.

And so, L’Wren would become inspired. After over a decade of being one of the fashion industry’s leading stylists, she would begin designing her own collection to fill gaps in every woman’s wardrobe.
