One of L’Wren Scott’s most celebrated collections is Allegory of Love (F/W 2013) Once quoted as saying that she was ‘obsessed with gold’, it was not a surprise to see L’Wren drawing inspiration from one of the most decadent artists of the Vienna Secession Movement; Gustav Klimt.
—— Scott’s F/W 2013 collection gathered color palette, texture, and embroidery inspiration from some of Klimt’s most iconic works including; Judith (1901) & a portrait of Johanna Staud (1910).
—— Scott worked closely with artisans in London who aided in her vision of hyper glamour & decadence for this collection. Scott and her team focused on gilding accessories & fabrics with gold leaf & even creating 23 carat gold temporary tattoos that imitated high collars and bracelets similar to the ones Scott herself wore on a regular basis.
—— Scott presented her collection to 132 people in London for the first & only time that season. Citing the reason being that, “London has some of the most important international foot traffic,” when she spoke to the Financial Times in 2013.
—— Shortly after her presentation, L’Wren Scott spoke to close friend Rachel Feinstein and a small audience of 50 at the Neue Gallery in NYC. Sitting against a backdrop of an original portrait of ‘Adele Bloch Bauer I,’ juxtaposed with dresses from her own collection, Scott spoke in length about the inspiration she drew from Klimt, his love affair with Adele Bauer, and how that translates to her relationship with her own work; saying, “I’d be the first person to have everything I make. It’s very hard to let go of your work.” (Citations: Financial Times , Vanity Fair, WWD) #lwrenscott
