A good movie

Since I kept hearing some really good things about this flick, I was really eager to check it out. Eventually, to be honest, I had pretty much the same reaction I had while watching ‘The Visitor’, the following directing effort by Thomas McCarthy. Indeed, once again, I enjoyed the slow melancholic mood and how the characters were organically developed and really fully-fledged and, yet, I still had a hard time to really care about the story. I mean, first of all, the whole train hobby was fairly tedious but, above all, if you think about it, even though the approach was nice and refreshing, I thought that the outcome was actually rather pedestrian and predictable. I mean, at first, the main character doesn’t want to talk to anyone but it all changes and, towards the end, they are all best friends which was hardly original. Still, because the whole thing was very well written and thanks to a stellar cast, especially Peter Dinklage in a breakthrough performance, it was still very enjoyable. Indeed, Dinklage, with a very few words, managed to give his character an impressive depth and I really believed in this character and his inner turmoil. To conclude, even though I wasn’t completely sold, it was still a solid drama and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
