Review of All the Boys Love Mandy Lane

Initial Thought: I am a big fan of horror movies and this was on my list to watch. So I decided to go ahead and give it a look. The premise is very similar to a story I thought was original, but clearly it isn't as original as I had hoped. I will have to just tweak it a bit to make it different.

Characters/Acting: Amber Heard here fellas that's probably enough to get you in the door. Anson Mount my draw some of his fans in as well. It's a teen slasher flick though so don't hold your acting expectations too high. None of the characters here are someone you root for except maybe Garth. Chloe is the stuck up brat who is probably the hottest here in my opinion. I like that they give her more depth than the casual queen bee. I thought the acting was pretty good with the most stand out to me being Michael Welch.

Story: So basically what we have here is a slasher who is killing off the people who just can't get enough of Mandy Lane. This girl was apparently a previously nerdy type of girl who became hot. This I can say is pretty true to reality and sadly it does happen. I don't think people get killed off for it though. The beginning of this movie kind of spoils the whole twist at the end although part of it was unexpected. A lot of this movie is the cliche boring teen partying. I liked the fact the killer doesn't wear a mask since it would have been pointless. There were a few decent death scenes. One near the end was brutal not because of how it happened but the fact the killers are having a conversation while they allow the person to bleed out. The ending was pretty good with a few good twists to the idea I didn't see coming.

Directing/Writing: The writer hasn't done anything other than a movie called The Well that came out last year so we will see how he started off. The director however has done a few more and I've liked all of them from The Wackness to Warm Bodies. He is a pretty fun director to watch in my opinion so I expect to enjoy this little slasher.

Final Thought: This was a pretty decent watch. It's nice to see different twists and turns in this genre. There were times I did get a little bored, but the last 30 minutes make up for it. It was different in it's style than many horror/slashers, but I think that's what charmed me here. There were a few times were the movie slowed down a couple seconds which I'm not sure if it was Netflix or the editing of the movie, but it was really odd. Anyways this is a good one to check out.
