Like most everyone out there on Listal, I watch a lot of movies. My taste is very refined and specific; most people I know either hate everything they watch with me, or they walk away with a smile on their face. Surprisingly, a $5 dollar DVD purchase from the local Wal-Mart provided quite a positive experience.
I'm still not sure why I bought this DVD, it is a literal triple threat of actors that I could live without watching most anything they're in for the rest of my life. Seriously though, Ice-T? Somehow he won me over with this one, but Lithgow is the true champ here. You also witness that raw Denzel that everyone misses - the one that provides a solid drunk scene and conveys some sort of almost tangible emotion.
The bottom line is this: the story actually has meat on its bones. Lithgow set a very dark undertone, one of which could almost scare me if I wasn't so shamelessly jaded by films of this type. All in all, this is a winner. Go watch it as soon as you can, maybe you'll be able to find it in the $5 dollar bin too. It's worth it.
