An average movie

Nowadays, Brian De Palma’s career has become rather disappointing but there was a time when the guy was one of the most interesting directors around. I always had a weak spot for this director and, therefore, I was really eager to check this flick. After his biggest flop with ‘The Bonfire of the Vanities’, De Palma reluctanctly came back to the genre he has been the most assiociated with, the psychological thriller. To be honest, it was definitely not one of his best flicks but I thought it was entertaining enough. Indeed, obviously, the whole thing was terribly far-fetched but I find it actually rather fascinating when a thriller tries to go a little bit deeper into the psychology of its characters, even though it didn’t make much sense here. On top of that, it was just really neat that John Lithgow, who actually started his career with Brian De Palma with ‘Obsession’ and later on with ‘Blow Out’, was for once playing the lead. To conclude, even though it was nothing really amazing, I thought it was still a decent thriller and I think it is worth a look, especially if you like the genre or if you are interested in Brian De Palma’s work.
