An interesting failure

Since this movie doesn’t really have a stellar reputation, I wasn’t really expecting much but since there was a pretty neat cast, I still wanted to check it out. Eventually, I was actually really surprised by this flick and I’m rather amazed that it doesn’t get more credit nowadays. Indeed, I have seen it again like a year ago and it stroke me how accurate it was in the way it depicted a terrorist attack. On top of that , it was even more scary that the movie was made 3 years before the attacks on the WTC. Apparently, when it was released, it was a flop and there was some controvery because it was deemed offensive and stereotypical but, even though I’m usually sensitive for that matter, it really didn’t bother me at all and I thought it was actually a pretty accurate way to represent extremist muslims. The only thing, in my opinion, that prevented this movie to become really good was the botched ending. Indeed, they managed to develop a realistic and complex world situation and the ending clearly stood out as something from a fairy tale during which, somehow, within the last 10 minutes, all those complicated issues were pretty much solved magically. The current rise of the Islamic terrorism show that this situation won’t be solved so easily and won’t be solved anytime soon. Still, in spite of its flaws, I think it is really interesting movie and it is definitely worth a look.
