More than two years ago, 'Nativity 2' was released. I ended up seeing it and finding it a bad movie with pretty squeamish inappropriate humour for kids. From recording 'Nativity', I expected something pretty average!
'Nativity' is a bad film much worse than I expected it to be! The film focuses on a teacher Paul Maddens (Martin Freeman) who hates Christmas and his ex-girlfriend Jennifer (Ashley Jensen) is in Hollywood. Paul is given the responsibility of directing the nativity. Paul tries to lie to everyone and say that Hollywood is coming to the school...the whole concept just gets really complicated from there!
The start of 'Nativity!' is just plain average but eventually when the whole "Hollywood coming to the school" idea comes in and Paul keeps lying and then saying yes, just gets more complicated. Eventually the play is cancelled but Paul warms to Christmas and tries to reproduce the play resulting in the stupidest irrelevant play ever. A play irrelevant to the nativity it's supposed to be about!
'Nativity!' is ridiculous and worse than its sequel which is really an achievement! The story is complicated, boring and senseless and as for the actors, Marc Wootton's performance just gets on my nerves, Martin Freeman and Jason Watkins doesn't seem interested in the film at all, only Pam Ferris escapes criticising acting and must be embarrassed to be seen in it!
If you want to see Martin Freeman in a Christmas movie, just watch a film that I love actually 'Love Actually', his scenes are inappropriate for kids but for grown-ups it's better than this!
