A disappointing movie

When I was a kid, I was a huge fan of Jean-Claude Van Damme and I saw all the movies he made at the beginning of his career. Eventually, at around 14 years old, I started to get interested in other kind of movies and I discovered that his movies were not so good after all. However, afterwards, he did make a few movies that seemed to be decent, like this one, so I was really eager to check it out. Obviously, I was still not expecting a masterpiece but this movie did turn out to be Van Damme's biggest commercial succes so I expected it to be at least a decent SF action flick. Eventually, to be honest, l was in fact rather disappointed by the damned thing. I mean, Peter Hyams is a decent director, even if his movies never really become more than some B features and, in fact, a year later, he would make another movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, 'Sudden Death' which was, in my opinion, actually better than this flick. I was actually surprised about how average the whole thing turned out to be... Indeed, the plot was rather pathetic, the special effects looked cheap, the acting was just really weak and, even the action scenes were rather disappointing. To conclude, the whole thing turned out to be really underwhelming and I don't think it is really worth a look.
