Review of Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014)

At first when I saw there was a trailer for this I actually thought it was a comic book movie about Birdman. Instead it's about a guy who played Birdman which actually intrigued me. I have been hearing tons of good things about this movie so I decided to go ahead and give in to the ravings. The only other movie I have seen from director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu was Babel so I have hopes that this will be a pretty good watch as people say. I love all the references they make to their real life counterparts as well as to big name celebrities. Everyone here puts on such stellar performances. Michael Keaton proves that he still has the range even though he has been away for awhile. I love that this feels like a theater production and seems like one single shot like you are actually watching the story unfold without a change of pace. It's definitely a different sort of film and nothing about this is run of the mill. It has a little bit of everything. It's quirky, dark, amusing, and just plain entertaining. I don't know why it took me so long to go ahead and see this, but it was well worth finally checking it out. I thought the ending was creative and gives the viewer their own decision to make. I think if you are looking for something innovative, intelligent, and fun I recommend giving this a shot.
