Saturday mornings were a reason to get up early when Shadow Raiders was on!
Every episode left you wanting to know what happened next! It was almost amputating! With a diverse and colouful cast, you were never left bored. The story revolves around a malicious planet, The Beast, that treks the galaxy and consumes other lifeforms and planets. The pilot starts with the destruction of Planet Tek and the sole survivor manages to jump to the next solar system to warn them of the coming of the Beast.
This particular system is home to five neighbouring planets, The Cluster, which constantly fight over resources. One of the planets is long dead but the other four have flourishing populations which suffer from a bitterness since before their time. The series explores Tekla (the last citizen of Tek) as she joins forces with a disgraced miner, Graveheart, and the King of Planet Ice, Cryos, as they propose an alliance with the other Cluster Worlds to deal with the threat of the beast.
The series ended after 2 seasons. Not because it was unpopular but the production team just decided to stop where it was; which to me is really quite somber. If the creators can't even be bothered to complete what they started with no real barrier except apathy, then what is the world coming to?!? The proposed idea for the third series was to explore the origin of the Beast which will sadly remain a mystery forever more.
I managed to get the series' on DVD and I'm happy to watch the stories of the war planets over and over again!
