An average movie

Since I have been living in the Netherlands, I have been watching many Dutch movies but, to be honest, the Dutch film industry is actually rather disappointing. Basically, there are two categories of movies which manage to get some success in the Netherlands : the family features and the adaptations of popular books. Well, this movie basically belongs to the 2nd group, even though eventually it got some rather poor reviews and didn't get much love even though the book was actually quite popular. Well, where should I start? There was actually an interesting cast (Bracha van Doesburgh, Thom Hoffman, Halina Reijn, Angela Schijf, Birgit Schuurman, Peter Paul Muller), even if I think that Bracha van Doesburgh was rather miscast. For such a role, you need a woman who can give the illusion that she could be attracted by danger like Michael Douglas in 'Basic Instinct' for example but, even though van Doesburgh looked really charming, I never understood why she got involved with Thom Hoffman for no apparent reason than moving on the plot. And that was the main issue with this flick, the plot. Indeed, even though it was only 90 minutes, it was still so slow. It was taking forever to move on and without the omnipresent soundtrack, I'm not sure I would have noticed that it was actually a thriller. To conclude, even though the whole thing had some potential, it was just a really weak thriller and I don' t think it is really worth a look, even if you are interested in Dutch movies.
