A classic

By now, I have seen all the movies directed by Hayao Miyazaki and, after watching his flicks, I must admit it, most of them didnโ€™t really blow me away. I mean, they were all pretty good, the hand-drawn animation displayed was nothing short of marvelous but, to be honest, I always have a hard time to get into his stories. Still, there was one major exception though and it was this masterpiece which I just really loved. Indeed, I have all respect for the Disney animated features and they definitely made some great pictures but, in my opinion, Hayao Miyazaki displayed here so much more imagination and this feature was just so much more spellbinding. Once again, it was visually amazing but, for once, the story was just so fascinating. Indeed, not only did Miyazaki deliver a fascinating world but also he gave us a dark and thrilling tale with some quiet moments and some frenetic action. Furthermore, the pacing which be can challenging in most of Ghibli productions was just flawless here. Another major improvement was that the main character was quite complex and I really cared about what she was going through. It is interesting to note that my wife thought it would be too dark for my kids but I still made all my children watched this flick when they were very young (all between 7 and 12 years old when they watched it) and they were all mesmerized. Anyway, to conclude, I think it is a great achievement and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
