An average movie

I don’t know why exactly but I was really attracted by this flick. Eventually, it wasn’t not really good I’m afraid. I mean, I did like the interesting use of color (grey, brown, dark green) which helped to get into the time period. Still, even though the story really had some potential, I really hard a hard time to get into it. To start with, it has been a long time since I had so much trouble to follow a Dutch movie and I thought that it was because my Dutch was not good enough but, half way through, my (Dutch) wife said she could barely follow what they said as well. As a typical Dutch production, there was plenty of gratuitous nudity and sex scene but they didn’t add much to the plot. Eventually, I think the whole thing was above all rather poorly written, there were too many characters, they were not well developed and even the main character was just way too stereotypical and I honestly had a hard time to care about what was she was going through. Before the end-credits, they explained the amazing impact those events had on Dutch history, those comments were the most interesting thing about this movie which didn’t display at all the magnitude of what was going on at the time. To conclude, even though it was rather disappointing, I still think it is worth a look though, especially if you are interested in Dutch movie or Dutch history.
