An average movie

I always hard a hard time with Claude Lelouch. To be honest, I have seen only 4 of his movies and a short so I shouldn’t judge him so early but there is something that bugs me about him. I don’t know, the guy has a career spending over 50 years and has quite a respectable reputation in France but I don’t feel much connection with him. Anyway, I bought a very cheap dvd box with 4 movies including this flick so I thought it was time to give him another chance. Well, it is a pretty obscure flick and probably not one of his best I’m afraid. I mean, the story was intriguing, there was a pretty cool cast and the exotic location was also pretty neat but the whole thing was still rather pompous in my opinion. It is a like the casting of Patricia Kaas. Kaas was (and still is, I guess) a very famous singer in France and she looked pretty stunning but I couldn’t shake the feeling that she was there only as a stunt casting. Her presence was interesting but also rather distracting. To conclude, in spite of its flaws, it remains an intriguing feature and I think it is worth a look, especially if you are interested in French movies.
