I enjoyed The Freedom Phalanx as it helped to flesh out more than just Statesman's backstory. The Freedom Phalanx focuses on the early adventures of Positron and Synapse when they were new to the Hero gig, before the formation of the Phalanx we know in the game. The story itself is a little lackluster, involving a sometimes needlessly complicated plot that was very slow moving at times.

One part of the book I truly did enjoy was the portrayal of the toll of Immortality on Statesman as the book goes on. The writer did an excellent job with Positron specifically, taking time to flesh out exactly how Positron did even the simplest things, such as movement in flight. To me, describing the various systems Positron has to use in his suit in order to do what he does added alot to the book's flavor.

Overall, I rated this a 7/10, partly because I am a fan of the characters and the franchise, and I would suggest it to any fan of either. For anyone else, it's a solid read, but it's not going to get you too excited.
