Weaving a tale

Chevalier once again uses a piece of art as a starting point for her story. This time it's the Lady and the Unicorn tapestries. And like the tapestries, this tale is woven from many different viewpoints. As almost nothing is known about the making of the tapestries she uses supposition to flesh out a nice story. Each chapter is from the view point of one of 8 characters in the book, and not all the characters are sympathetic. But like the tapestries themselves, you need to give it time to enjoy the whole picture. Of course it's hard not to compare it to the "Girl with the Pearl Earring", and this is pale in comparison. But if you can distance yourself from that work you may find yourself enjoying this one in it's own style.
