Review of Resident Evil

"You're all going to die down here."

What one hell of a bloody fantastic ride. If you really want to know how something as simple as a viral pandemic starts which results in the possible destruction of humanity, this movie is for you. I haven't played any of the games in my entire life, but that didn't stop me from fully appreciating the flow of events and thoughts in the film. The movie crew and the director certainly covered all the bases when they begun work on this project. By the end of the film, you have a good gist of what happened; from the reason behind the amnesia of the two unknown people at the beginning of the film until the very ending. I liked the way the events of this film tied up with the second, giving you the impression of how fast the events unfold. The movie starts off with a person (presumably a scientist) take two vials of blue and green liquid and places them inside a metal container. He takes one blue colored vial and throws it on the table, smashing it open. We can see a type of gas escaping from the vial and entering the ventilation system. Cut to the next scene, we see a young, red-haired woman waking up inside a bathroom, clothed only by the shower curtain. As she exits, she realizes that she is in a mansion, and after finding a red dress on a bed, puts it on and proceeds outside. Before she can go outside, however, she is yanked back inside and is captured by a military group. There is another man there, who claims that he is a policeman. The military group take him with them nevertheless, and they are ushered into a train, hidden under the mansion, where they find another man, who seems to have been knocked unconscious. When he revives, they realize he also has amnesia, and they continue on. Once outside a huge pair of iron doors, the three "civilians", who are named Alice (Jovovich), Matt (Mabius), and Spence (Purefoy) that the main computer system, named the Red Queen (voiced by Michaela Dicker) suddenly shut the doors of the Hive (the name of the underground facility) and killed everyone inside. Their mission is to find out what happened down there. The next scenes... I leave it up to you to watch the film in order for you to find out for yourself. The storyline was easy to follow, and the sudden twists may not have been as shocking as those in Saw, but they were still as effective in making the viewer stunned for a few seconds. :)))) In case you're into movies which answer the questions "How?" and "Why?", as well as those which involve legions of the undead and are spin offs of video games, this film is for you. ;)
