JFK review

Hard to follow but still brilliant!!

It is a story that I found very interesting but also I found that JFK sent a message saying that all incidents have a story to them especially with deaths. I find it quite inspiring as well but I don't know why. It is a very powerful film but, my God, it is complex and hard to understand! It is complex because heard different stories from different people and most murder mystery films are anyway. Sometimes, I absolutely hate complex films but this one was really interesting because I wanted to find out what really happened to President Kennedy and how and why it happened. I have to admit that this film does drag on and get a tiny bit boring at times. JFK seems a very simple story that can be written with just one sentence: "New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison is investigating the assassination of President John F. Kennedy", but it is deeper and there is more as you watch it. 22nd November 1963 was one of the hardest days in American history because it was the sudden and unexpected murder of a President who changed America who most people loved but some hated as well. It is quite an emotional film not only for just the death of President Kennedy but also because of how desperate Jim Garrison is to find out the truth about the incident. I find it quite a tense film as well because of whether there will be any twists in this film like a change of who, where, how and why Kennedy was killed. When we see what really happened to Kennedy, we actually see him get shot which I wasn't really expecting. The film was based on the assassination of President Kennedy but the film was more about Lee Harvey Oswald who was the man who killed him. Despite the large amount of evidence, I don't think it really needed to be 3 hours long. They could have cut it by at least ยฝ an hour. JFK was a nominee of Best Picture 1991 but it wasn't nearly as good as fellow nominees Beauty And The Beast and The Silence Of The Lambs.

This film has a great ensemble cast with a wide range of very talented actors. Kevin Costner hasn't been in many good films with good performances and I have to say that JFK is definitely one of his best films. I obviously knew Kennedy and his assassination was true but I am unsure whether Jim Garrison was a real person. The assassination investigation affects Jim Garrison's personal life because he becomes totally obsessed with it. It takes over his life so to speak. He even stays up most nights investigating. He cares more about Kennedy's death more than his own wife and children. As Garrison gets closer to finding out the truth, Garrison's family become in danger and he starts to lose his mind. He goes through a very hard time because he only wants to find out the truth. He was really affected by Kennedy's murder which is probably why he became obsessed with the investigation. Garrison acts more like a cop and detective more than a District Attorney in JFK. Kevin Bacon, Tommy Lee Jones, Gary Oldman, Laurie Metcalf, Micheal Rooker, Jay O. Sanders and Sissy Spacek were good in this film too.

After hearing Oliver Stone's amazing solid script of JFK, Stone must have studied really hard on Kennedy's assassination and the mystery behind Oswald too. Stone has always had a great talent at creating bio-pics including JFK, Born On The Fourth Of July, World Trade Center and W. Oliver Stone only earned credit for his early films because he doesn't really make amazing films nowadays. He won Best Director Oscars for Platoon and Born On The Fourth Of July. He totally deserved the nomination for JFK but didn't quite deserve to win it. The script was absolutely amazing! I find that the best scripts are mostly on bio-pics that are about real-life events.

JFK is a very gripping story that is slightly flawed. It is one of the best films of 1991 but isn't the best of the 5 1991 Best Picture nominees. I prefer The Silence Of The Lambs and Beauty And The Beast over this film. I would recommend this to every American as well as every person who loves films.
