A classic

Since I’m huge fan of Alfred Hitchcock, I was really eager to check this flick. To be honest, I haven’t seen (yet) the first version but apparently this remake is better. First of all, in my opinion, it is one of the coolest movie titles ever but, unfortunately, even though this title made me expect a spellbinding mystery, the whole thing didn’t really blow me away eventually. I mean, it was a solid mystery but with a similar plot, I thought that ‘North by Northwest’ was 10 times better. Indeed, both movies are basically dealing with a regular guy geting involved in some conspiracy. I don’t know, James Stewart and Doris Day were both fine but their characters were rather bland and not really interesting in my opinion. Even though I have most respect for James Stewart, I always preferred the Cary Grant’s characters in Hitchcock’s features because even if they are always charming, they are also usually rather twisted whereas the James Stewart’s character are always the righteous (and rather boring) type of guys. Anyway, Hitchcock remains a terrific director and the whole thing was still thoroughly entertaining. To conclude, even though I don’t think it belongs to Hitchcock’s best movies, it is still a pretty good flick and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you are interested in Hitchcock’s work.
