A two-character study, taking place in an unspecified country, about the use of torture to extract confessions from innocent people.
When the government accuses a children's book author of writing subversive literature, she's hauled into custody. Without benefit of counsel, she's interrogated, then subjected to a variety of agonizing beatings, all in an attempt to force her to denounce her work.
