I sometimes find Iain Banks' books slow to get started but great reads in general. With Espedair Street I felt the start to be more interesting with an equally good ending. This book is a great story of love, music, and dreams, among other things. It reads like it could be the story of a real band and thus it is easy to see it come alive and it makes the character of Daniel Weir all the more real to the reader. The ending may seem predictable, but it was more satisfying for me that way as the story remained quite simple and everything fell into place.
The book will most likely stand out as one of my favourite Banks books, along with Crow Road, for a while.
