A show about a mountain is PEAK

I cooked with that title not gonna lie.

Jirisan is a show about mountain rangers. "How can that be interesting?" I hear you ask with my mind powers. Well, actually there are two ways. The obvious one like: Well, saving people that get stranded on the mountain and might die otherwise, the rangers risking their lives and bodies to achieve it, also protecting the mountain, dealing with forest fires, floods and snowstorms. But also, because this is written by my goddess Kim Eun-hee, there is crime, she writes a lot of procedurals and this is a similar one. There is one large overarching case tho, just the one. Someone or someone’s is killing people on the mountain and making them look like accidents. Who? And Why? You’ll find out.

And just for good measure, there is a supernatural aspect to it. The show is good, it feels a bit sluggish around episode 10 to 12 and maybe having one less episode could have been better, but is overall fine, is not really that slow, just a bit for a quick while, a lot of episodes have plenty of content, a lot of shit happens, story time, backstory time, characters just having fun and being friends time. Just a couple are a bit stretch. Is fun, is intriguing, dramatic and engaging.

Now, it doesn’t have that many great characters, technically just two, the main couple, play by Ju Ji-hoon and Jun Ji-hyun, who played the prince Lee Chang and Ashin respectively from Kingdom, another of Kim shows. So, if you are one of those people who wants to fuck the shit out of them, that’s another extra reason to watch it XD

They are both very good, they are the core of the show, their relationship and capacity to uncover clues and solved the crime, they are quite clever, but far from perfect. Then everyone around them is usually just fine, very likeable. Actually, basically everybody is very likeable just by the fact that they are people risking their lives to save others, they’re  heroes all, just very nice people who care deeply about saving lives and helping the community. So if nothing else at least they are quite easy to root for.

I won’t spoil much, but I’ll say this, don’t expect things to go right for the heroes XD Just like with Signal, Kim (yeah, I know that’s the family name) likes bittersweet resolutions for the most part, but also does like to go with the happiest thing sometimes, so it’s quite balance. She also likes to play a lot with time periods, so you would see a lot of back and forth, as well with the classic of only seeing parts of one large event to maintain the mystery, you’re gonna be thinking is one thing and then turns out is another thing. You know, is a mystery, that’s how it works.

Anyway, the show is good and besides one thing that happens with a lost phone that is REALLY important for the ending, I don’t remember having logic problems with it, everybody is usually quite smart and competent and things flow with sense being made. I do think of myself as being very good at spotting stuff, but I can’t catch everything XD

That’s it. Is one of those shows I just want to say something simple about.
