A good movie

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this movie but, since it did receive some solid reviews, I thought I might as well check it out. On top of that, I was looking for a movie to watch with my date (it was actually our 3rd date together) and it turned out to be a perfect choice. Indeed, she didn’t know anything about it and I didn’t know the twist so it turned out to be quite fun and, fortunately, not awkward at all. What I actually didn’t know was that it was a remake of some rather obscure Spanish movie which has been remade already 7 times before(!). To be honest, the fact that this story had been done so many times did make the whole thing so much less original. Still, I always had a weak spot for such minimalist features taking place in a single location with only a handful of characters. The cast involved was also pretty neat (Seth Rogen, Olivia Wilde, Penélope Cruz, Edward Norton) and they all delivered some solid performances, especially Rogen who was often quite hilarious. Concerning the twist in this story, I thought at first these neighbours were actually interested in their fancy apartment. My date actually had an interesting theory, that the writers actually added this twist just to spice things up. Indeed, it did feel slightly odd that, even if Hawk and Piña might be some free spirits, that they would propose some group sex with their neighbours the very same evening that they were getting to know each other for the first time. For me, it was even harder to swallow that Joe and Angela would be so eager to explore something like this, completely out of their comfort zone, with some total strangers. I mean, to engage in such sexual relationship(s) is a huge step which would require some careful consideration, especially if you are already in a long-term relationship. I guess Joe and Angela were quite desperate and seriously sex-deprived to make such an impulsive and drastic decision right on the spot. Eventually, the makers did chicken out after all anyway and, after maybe 5 harmless mins during which nothing much happened, this whole sex orgy was actually cancelled after all. What still remained was that I was wondering if both couples would eventually last which was a little bit sad but it was definitely entertaining to spend some time with them, that’s for sure.
