An average movie

To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this Marvel Special but, since it was fairly short and since it was available on Disney+, I thought I might as well check it out. This short would be also a bridge with ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ which I will see this evening so the timing was pretty much perfect. As a result, I first watched the whole Netflix-Marvel series (I had already watched the whole Netflix-Marvel ‘Daredevil’ series and ‘Daredevil: Born Again). As you can see, it was a whole lot of homework to make sure that I was more or less up to date regarding the MCU and, well, it's rather annoying that Marvel keeps recycling all these characters from these old Netflix-Marvel TV-series. Anyway, coming back on this short, to be honest, I thought it was actually rather disappointing after all. I mean, Jon Bernthal is just so good playing this character, there is like no other character like him in the MCU. Bernthal is always so raw and convincing and he certainly didn’t disappoint here once again. However, as I mentioned before, I just saw the Netflix-Marvel ‘Punisher’ series and, yet, I struggled to figure out when this short was supposed to actually fit in. Was it taking place afterwards? But, in this case, why was Frank Castle in such a bad shape then? Even more problematic was the fact that it was rather short and maybe ¾ of the duration was pretty much some endless action scene featuring Castle killing a bunch of random goons. Sure, it was all well made and Bernthal was really bad*ss but I wish there would have been an actual story to be told or that, at least, one of these guys could have been a slightly more worthy opponent. Eventually, I thought it was not bad and it was watchable but, seriously, I didn’t see the point at all of this short special.
