An average movie

I’m actually planning to watch a whole bunch of movies from this franchise. I have to admit that I did like the intro clearly establishing this Jason curse meaning that, no matter what happened, they could kill and bring Jason back without too much hustle which was pretty neat in my opinion. Indeed, during the first movies, it didn’t make much sense how Jason kept coming back but, with this concept, they did create a lot of freedom for the writers to come up with some wild and cool stories. However, unfortunately, I’m afraid they just kept delivering some trashy slasher movies though. This time, they also finally dropped Tommy after 3 movies without a shred of explanation. Instead, they swapped him with Tina the telekinetic (the character was actually inspired by Carrie) and it wasn’t actually a bad concept, except that her connection with Jason was just too thin, even borderline nihil. Beside Tina, they brought of course another bunch of horny teenagers having conveniently a big party next door, smoking dope and being super promiscuous. It’s funny how the sex and nudity was coming and disappearing in this franchise (this instalment had probably the most of it). However, none of these characters was developed whatsoever and they were just added to make sure that Jason had a whole bunch of people to slaughter. Seriously, it was already the 7th movie in this franchise and they still brought this back at this point without adding something interesting or original but it was getting pretty boring. This movie was also pretty violent and they kept recutting it until they finally got a ‘R’ rating. The kills were not bad, I guess. Still, the way Jason kept killing people completely randomly was also just lame. However, the most bewildering thing in this movie was this twist ending during which Tina’s father emerged from the lake to ‘kill’ Jason which was probably the most ridiculous idea they ever had. Anyway, to conclude, even if it wasn’t the worst instalment in this franchise, it was still nothing really impressive and, to be honest, I can’t wait to be done with this (only one movie left in my queue).
