I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick. In fact, to be honest, I actually wonder how the damned thing did end up in my queue. I think it was because I have a weak spot for Bridget Moynahan which was a rather weird motivation to watch this movie since she had a very small role and showed up only for 1 scene. Well, fortunately for me, the movie itself was not so bad after all. Sure, it was pretty much a cheap version of ‘Training Day’, a movie vastly overrated in my opinion. Obviously, Denzel Washington was fascinating to behold but the rest of the movie was just over-the-top, it was just too far-fetched for my taste, especially when you think that everything did happen during one single day. So, obviously, the concept here was not original and, yet, I did appreciate that their approach was actually much more down-to-earth and simply more realistic than in ‘Training Day’. Towards the end, when they went to save this little girl, they did stretch it a little bit but, in my opinion, it was nothing compared to the crazy nonsense occurring in Antoine Fuqua’s movie. Concerning the actors involved, it seems to be rather unfair to compare Thomas Jane’s work in this movie to an Oscar winning performance from Denzel Freaking Washington at the top of his game. Indeed, Jane didn’t exactly dazzle me here but it had actually more to do with the material itself than him and his performance was actually pretty solid. Concerning Luke Kleintank, well, I had never heard of the guy before and he was definitely no Ethan Hawke, that’s for sure. His character’s introduction was unnecessarily pathetic and the sub-plot about his pregnant wife calling him every 2 hrs was also pretty lame but, other than that, he did all right with a character who was rather thankless after all. By the way, it was interesting that the main threat they encountered that night turned out to be a police officer. Anyway, to conclude, even if it was probably too generic to be really remarkable, I still thought it was a decent watch though.
