An average movie

To be honest, I didn’t expect much from this flick but, since there was a decent cast involved and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out anyway. Not to be confused with ‘A Dog's Purpose’ and even more ‘A Dog's Journey’ which was released the same year, this movie had actually nothing to do with these, even if the concept was terribly similar. Indeed, basically, the main character was a dog and, even though she couldn’t talk, you could hear her thoughts throughout the whole thing which is, well, an acquired taste. Such movies are also the result of our advanced CGI technology meaning that you can do pretty much whatever you want with animals story wise but the question remains, should we? Indeed, is it really such an interesting way to use this technology? In this case, there was also the fact that the end-result still did look rather fake and above all really ugly. While watching this movie, I was also wondering if what was displayed might be actually accurate. Indeed, is it really how dog might think or feel or is it just some wishful thinking from dog lovers? Another thing that really didn’t work was the fact that this movie leaned too much on this law saying that, in Denver, pitbulls were illegal (it’s apparently not the case anymore). The fact that this law was real or not didn’t matter, it was in my opinion a really weak narrative device to drive this story forward. The fact that the dog actually didn’t look like a pitbull at all probably didn’t help either. I think one of the best aspects was how therapeutic Bella was for these veterans, it was sweet and intriguing but, like everything else happening in this movie, the way it was added to the mix was just seriously clunky. Anyway, to conclude, even if I will have to admit that the damned thing was rather harmless, it was still pretty lame though and I don’t think it is really worth a look, except maybe if you are a dog lover and have a weak spot for such movies.
