To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since I have a weak spot for Britt Robertson, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, such faith-based dramas can be a real chore to watch and I’m afraid this one was not an exception. I have to admit that I had never heard of Jeremy Camp before watching this movie (to be honest, none of the songs I have heard in this flick really impressed me) and it’s possible that his story might have had some potential but the way it was told here was just so tedious. By the way, what was the point of the love triangle involving Jean-Luc? Indeed, it had so very little impact after all so you might wonder why it was actually included. However, they actually really lost me when Melissa got miraculously cured. Sure, I have to admit that I was raised in a strong atheist household but I think it’s such a lame way to handle religion. Basically, as displayed in this movie, it is considered as some kind of magical force which will grant your wishes as long as you are pious which is not only ridiculous but also rather childish and in fact really selfish. Indeed, if his wish would be granted, what about the rest of the world who was probably suffering much more than he did? Eventually, it didn’t really last for long and she eventually passed away which did fit more with how religion and life in general actually work or should work. Concerning the cast, Archie, I mean KJ Apa, was not bad and it was pretty cool that the guy could play the guitar and do his own singing. However, I was not so impressed by Britt Robertson. I have to admit it, she wasn’t helped by the material but it was pretty obvious that she didn’t shave her head when her character had to. Sure, you could argue that it might be too drastic since she lost her hair only for a small amount of time after all but other actors did it in such similar cancer drama’s and I think it shows a certain commitment to the role. Anyway, to conclude, the damned thing was really tedious and I think you should probably avoid it, except if you are a fan of the genre.
