A good movie

I already saw this movie when it was released but, for some technical reasons, my review was deleted on this website so, since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out again. To be honest, I did have some mixed feelings before watching the damned thing and, even though it was apparently a passion project for Tim Burton and Winona Ryder for many years, I’m not sure if I really needed a sequel after all these years. Well, eventually, I have to admit that this sequel was actually not bad after all. In fact, I also rewatched ‘Beetle Juice’ not so long ago so it was pretty cool to spot all the little references to the previous installment which I actually didn’t pick up the first time around. Anyway, I have always been a fan of Beetlejuice, it is probably one of the best characters ever and it was pretty cool to have the opportunity to spend more time with him. In fact, I had the same issue here that I already had with the first movie, the fact that we don’t spend enough time with Beetlejuice. Instead, in this case, they opted to add some new characters but half of them turned out to be just underwhelming. The most tedious of the bunch was the one played by Justin Theroux who constantly dragged down the whole thing. I mean, since the first movie, we already had Beetlejuice who was trying to marry Lydia, there was no need to have another character who was trying to do pretty much the same thing. Even the lovely Monica Bellucci, who seemed to be perfect to play the lethal Delores, was actually wasted here as she didn’t do much, except wandering around looking for Beetlejuice. I mean, the character had some potential, they picked up the perfect actress for this role but, apparently, they never figured out what to do with her so she probably should have been removed. Willem Dafoe’s character was not bad, even if it was pretty random. Eventually, the best addition was Jenna Ortega and it was pretty neat to have 3 generations of Deetz ladies involved. Her sub-plot involving her falling in love with a local boy was not bad either but, all in all, this movie was just too scattered after all. Anyway, to conclude, even though it might be another pointless legacy sequel, I have to admit that it was still a decent watch though.
