To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since there was a decent cast involved and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. Even though it might seem weird, I prefer to know as little as possible before I watch a movie and, in this case, I really knew nothing about it, except that it was starring Thomasin McKenzie and Anne Hathaway, two really solid actresses. Well, it took forever before I could figure out what this movie was actually about and, to be honest, it shows that the damned thing actually didn’t really work. For a good while, I thought they might go for something similar to ‘Carol’ but it turned out to be something completely different after all. Indeed, after about 1 hour during which actually very little happened after all, they came up with some major twist which turned the whole thing pretty much upside down. The issue was that this major twist came so late, especially for a movie with such a short running time. In fact, this movie was just too short in my opinion. Indeed, with an extra 30 mins, they could have better fleshed out Rebecca and her relationship with Eileen. As it was represented, it seemed that Rebecca just showed up as a new colleague at some point, they had a few chats at work, they went once for some drinks after work, it was pretty much it and, yet, 5 mins later, they were engaging in something massively illegal together. The whiplash provoked by this twist was pretty intense, I can tell you that. Still, it doesn’t meant that it was bad though. Indeed, I was once again rather impressed by Thomasin McKenzie who was a perfect choice to play this character and she gave here another strong performance. She was just quite fascinating to behold here and it’s too bad that the movie actually didn’t have much else to offer. Concerning Anne Hathaway, she was not bad at all, she even looked quite stunning but her character turned out to be rather half-baked after all. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its flaws, it was still a decent watch though and I think it is worth a look.
