I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since it was starring Melissa Barrera and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. It was also directed by the two guys behind ‘Scream V’ and ‘Scream VI’ (which were also starring Barrera) so there was definitely some potential here. Well, to be honest, I thought the story turned out to be seriously idiotic after all. The beginning as a heist movie was not bad but this vibe was completely ruined by the fact that Abigail’s true nature was already revealed in all the promotional material. As a result, in spite the efforts of the cast involved, I didn’t care much about what was going on because I knew that it didn’t really matter. And, then, at some point, the characters finally did catch up with the audience and found out that Abigail was actually a vampire. From this point, the whole thing pretty much went on auto-pilot which wasn’t exactly thrilling, at least, not for me. At least, I have to admit that it was rather well made and these guys did use gallons of fake blood, that’s for sure. Eventually, what really saved this movie for me was the cast involved (Melissa Barrera, Kathryn Newton, Dan Stevens, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud). Indeed, it was actually quite impressive how much they managed to do with this material and, even though the story was constantly rather moronic, they all managed to make their respective characters charismatic and always fairly intriguing to follow. Concerning Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (AKA Radio Silence), I still haven’t watched ‘Ready or Not’ which is their most famous movie even if it has been rotting for several years in my queue but I should finally check it out at some point. Anyway, to conclude, even though I struggled to care about the damned thing, I have to admit that it was a decent watch though and I guess it is worth a look but probably only if you really like the genre.
