An average movie

I wasn’t expecting much from this flick but, as you might have noticed, I’m pretty obsessive with my movie watching so I still wanted to finish up the movies in this franchise. To be honest, even though some people think it was and still is the most hilarious thing in the world, I actually never really cared much for this franchise but, here, they pretty much reached their lowest point though. It’s also such a weird movie. While watching it, I was thinking that Peter Sellers probably did die during the production so they had to come up with something to finish up this project but, no, Sellers already passed away more than a year before so there was really no good reason to go for basically a random collection of unreleased scenes with Sellers playing the famous French detective. As a result, the damned thing did feel like the lowest cash-grab ever. Somehow, they still managed to start with a story about the Pink Panther diamond being stolen again and with Clouseau going after whoever stole it. However, it seems that they ran out of footage which could fit it this storyline and, at some point, Clouseau simply disappeared and the rest of the movie was about various other characters reminiscing about the incompetent police detective, giving them an excuse to provide more outtakes involving Sellers. Anyway, the damned thing was even more disjointed than usual and, even though it was marketed as some kind of tribute to Peter Sellers, the whole thing felt pretty shameless. After that, they would try to keep this franchise alive, obviously without Sellers, but all these attempts would be pretty abysmal (the Steve Martin version was especially dreadful) so they probably should leave this IP alone. Anyway, to conclude, I didn’t care much about the damned thing and I don’t think it is worth a look, except maybe if you are a die-hard fan of this franchise.
