An average movie

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from the damned thing but, since I have a weak spot for Rosario Dawson and Katherine Heigl and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. Unfortunately, I’m afraid the damned thing did turn out to be really lame after all. First of all, what was the link between this terribly generic title and the actual plot? Concerning this plot, well, it was pretty much a modern riff on ‘Fatal Attraction’, an erotic thriller from the 80’s which didn’t grow old well already. Anyway, in this case, in spite some decent efforts from Dawson and Heigl, the end-result was more gloomy and depressing than actually entertaining. I think I was mostly bothered by how clunky the writing was. For example, Julia came to live with her fiancé David before they got married but it felt as if she had zero contact with his ex before which didn’t make much sense. Like David, it was never clear what exactly happened between him and his ex but it was rather unconvincing how completely clueless he was regarding her toxic behavior. I mean, if it never worked between them, he must have seen some weird things. Concerning Tessa, Heigl had some fun playing such a Ice Queen psycho ex but, to be honest, this character was such a hot mess though. I mean, she didn’t work and she seemed to be pretty wealthy but where did this money come from? She probably received some alimony from David but, with his fancy brewery, it couldn’t be that much. At some point, I was really wondering if it was all really worth it for Julia. Sure, she really liked the guy (Rosario Dawson and Geoff Stults didn’t have much chemistry so they didn’t seem to be so in love) but the crazy ex was creating such a toxic environment (something which was actually fairly realistic) and, in reality, she probably would have bailed at some point. Anyway, even if the damned thing was not a complete disaster, it was still pretty weak and I don’t think it is worth a look.
