An average movie

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since I have a weak spot for Kristen Bell and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, to be honest, the concept did turn out to be seriously lame though. Indeed, having this woman and her estranged father going on a cruise after having no contact for more than 25 years was one of the least inspired ideas I have seen in quite some time. Seriously, the way they got drunk and still ended up together in this cruise was really half-baked considering the fact that this woman didn’t want to do anything with her father. The fact that the damned thing became pretty much a shameless commercial for such cruises probably didn’t help. Seriously, what was the point of showing all these activities taking place on the cruise? What was the connection with this story? And, yet, there was something quite genuine about these 2 characters after all. Furthermore, Kristen Bell and Kelsey Grammer both did deliver some solid performances. Concerning Seth Rogen, I’m not so sure though. This movie was actually the directorial debut of his wife, Lauren Miller Rogen, so it made sense that he would show up in some capacity and it was quite funny that his character was the only one who didn’t smoke weed in Jamaica. However, it seemed that they never figured out if he should be limited to a cameo or if he should be a fully fleshed character. In fact, this issue was not only with Seth Rogen’s character as all the supportive characters were completely forgettable. Anyway, to conclude, thanks to Kristen Bell and Kelsey Grammer, it was still watchable but there is no doubt that the damned thing was seriously forgettable though.
