An average movie

To be honest, I wasn’t really expecting much from the damned thing but, since it was starring Nicolas Cage, I thought I might as well check it out anyway. Well, from the awful cheap movies Cage has been making during the last 25 years, I guess it wasn’t the worst one. Still, it doesn’t mean that it was any good though. The fact that they ran out of money towards the end of the shoot probably didn’t help but, on the other hand, you talk about a movie with one location and only 3 characters so it couldn’t have been so expensive. Anyway, the directing from Stephen S. Campanelli, who has actually built up a career as a camera operator especially for Clint Eastwood, was so weak. Indeed, the guy certainly doesn’t know how to direct a movie at all (He also directed ‘Momentum’ which was even worse than this flick). Basically, the damned thing was completely tone-deaf. Some parts felt like they belonged to a sexy neo-noir feature (probably the only interesting thing about this movie) and some other parts felt like they belonged to a horror/thriller flick but none of it worked together. Concerning the main cast, of course, Nicolas Cage was obviously the main draw here but he looked completely bored out of his mind and didn’t even try to do something interesting here. At least, KaDee Strickland did look really sexy and convincing as some kind of femme fatale (another neo-noir aspect) but most of the time when she would open her mouth to say something, it was rather pathetic but I have to admit that she wasn’t helped by the material she was provided. Finally, the main character was played by Luke Benward who was actually the worst of the bunch. Seriously, not only the guy was not really charismatic but, above all, he completely failed to show how his character was experiencing all this. Anyway, to conclude, even if I have seen worse, the damned thing was still a waste of time and you should probably avoid it.
