A good movie

A few weeks ago, I saw ‘And Everything Is Going Fine’ and I thought it would be really cool to finally watch one of these monologues by Spalding Gray, especially this one since it was once again directed by Steven Soderbergh. Well, I was expecting to see Gray on stage only with a table and a chair telling his stories but it turned out to be much more elaborate than that after all. Sure, it was still a monologue so you did get a lot of Gray talking, I mean, that’s the whole point, but the set-up was constantly different, even with some surreal touches. There were even some testimonies of random people telling their own weird eye afflictions and how they dealt with but it’s always better when Gray was doing the talking. I was also surprised that this monologue turned out to be so specific. Indeed, for some reason, I was expecting his monologues to be more general about his life and life in general but he apparently focused on a specific subject and, this time, it was dealing with some eye issue and all the weird stuff he tried to avoid surgery to have it fixed. It was also interesting that, at the end, you didn’t even get to know if he got actually cured or not but, since he did live for another 8 years, I guess he was fine after all. Eventually, you might wonder if everything really happened this way (the Indian sweat ceremony, the Filipino psychic surgeon and some nutritionist in NY were all really far-out) but it’s above all the way that Spalding Gray was telling his tale was just so unique and so entertaining. Anyway, to conclude, it turned out to be a decent watch and I think it is worth a look, at least, if you like or if you are interested by this genre.
