A good movie

To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since it was dealing with an intriguing story, I thought I might as well check it out. Last week, I already saw ‘The Royal Hotel’, Kitty Green’s next directorial effort which was also starring Julia Garner and it was interesting to compare both movies. Indeed, while ‘The Royal Hotel’ was hot and really sweaty, this movie was so cold and actually even more depressing which was probably due to the fact that Garner’s character was completely alone this time around. Anyway, I actually preferred this movie because it felt so realistic while there were just too many stuff which didn’t really work in ‘The Royal Hotel’. It was also intriguing that Harvey Weinstein’s sexual abuse scandal started back in 2017 and they came up with this movie only 2 years later. Maybe they came up so fast with a movie about the subject to compensate the fact that Weinstein did his thing for at least 30 years before anyone finally dared to say anything about it. I also did appreciate the fact that this girl was working there only for 5 weeks. Indeed, while I was watching this movie, I was thinking how come she was so distressed by this whole situation, by now, she should know what’s going on but since she more or less just started, it worked really well. Indeed, she had such a coveted job and, yet, she ended up in one of the most toxic workplaces but she also just started working there so, at that specific point of time, it was all really confusing and heartbreaking for her which was something very well handled in this movie. The way everyone else in the staff acted as if it was a known fact for everybody was also quite crushing. I myself did work in a few really toxic workplaces but this was definitely from another level though. I also liked how they displayed that there was nothing fancy at all about the office of such an affluent US film production company. Indeed, it all looked rather unremarkable and even pretty ugly and what was going on there was actually even uglier. Anyway, to conclude, even if it was nothing really groundbreaking after all, it was still a solid realistic drama and I think it is worth a look.
