An average movie

To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since there was a decent cast involved, I thought I might as well check it out. I actually have a weak spot for romantic-comedies but this one turned out to be rather pathetic. Seriously, it seems that they decided to take the concept from ‘Notting Hill’ and tried to make it even less romantic than it already was. At the end of the day, the message of this movie was basically, like in ‘Notting Hill’, that the most average guy could get the most famous woman in the world but I’m afraid it was never convincing here. For starters, even though Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson are both quite charismatic, they had actually zero chemistry together. I also think Wilson was miscast here. Indeed, I think they should have chosen an actor with some legendary good looks like George Clooney or Brad Pitt but, with Wilson, this guy who seemed to be sweet was just too average to make this super star fall in love for him. At least, you get a good glimpse of how hectic Jennifer Lopez’s real life must be and how difficult it must be to maintain a relationship in these conditions. As pointed out by Wilson’s character, if she would be slightly less career-minded (seriously, there was a guy with a camera constantly following her) and slightly more focused on her private life, her relationships might have more chances to work out. In fact, her last marriage to Ben Affleck only lasted 2 years and it seems that Affleck, even himself a movie star, didn’t care much about her way of life constantly in the spotlights. At least, it was the first time that she was actually singing for a movie and it is surprising that it took her so long to do so. Anyway, to conclude, even if I have to admit it that it was rather harmless, it was still too weak and I don’t think it is worth a look, except maybe if you are a die-hard fan of the genre.
