An average movie

To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from this flick but, since it was starring Elijah Wood and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. When I was a kid, I actually did watch a TV show with this character but I’m not sure which one. Indeed, the one from the 60’s seems to be too old and the one from the 90’s seems to be too recent. Anyway, making a TV-show around a dolphin does sound like a terrible idea and the TV-show I watched was definitely not one of my favorites when I was growing up. In fact, even for a rather short movie like this one, they actually really struggled to come up with a satisfying story. It’s actually funny that a teenager wouldn’t like to spend weeks in such a beautiful location but Elijah Wood played the character as some emo teenager who would rather go to some trendy concerts instead and it actually worked. However, how they reduced the devastation of the ocean on a worldwide scale to the dumping of some toxic barrels in the sea was rather pathetic. For Elijah Wood, sure, it won’t be remembered as one of his best movies but I can see why he did get involved in this project anyway. Indeed, he got to spend several weeks in the Bahamas where the movie was shot and he got to shoot several scenes with some real dolphins which must have been a cool experience. Concerning Paul Hogan, he never really managed to get rid off Crocodile Dundee, he was basically playing the same character here and it would be actually his last big movie in Hollywood. Anyway, to conclude, even if I have to admit that it was rather harmless, it was still pretty lame and I don’t think it is really worth a look, even if you have some kids to entertain, there are so many better movies out there for them.
