Since I have really enjoyed the Knives Out franchise so far, of course, I was quite eager to check this 3rd installment. Each new installment is getting longer each time around and I wonder how the fans will receive it (the critics loved it just pretty much as much as its predecessors though). Well, as far as I was concerned, I really enjoyed the damned thing and it even turned out to be one of my favorite movies released in 2025 (the fact that the rest of the movies didn’t really impress me also played a role). Indeed, the writing was once again quite brilliant, nowadays, there is pretty much nothing else that reaches that level. The dialogues were therefore also really neat. Of course, Daniel Craig was once quite spellbinding and the guy is trying really hard and might even succeed in making Benoit Blanc his most memorable character which is not an easy fit when you will be forever remembered as James Bond, one of the most iconic characters ever created. Against him or next to him, if you prefer, he had Josh O'Connor also on top of his game and this guy might slowly become one of the most interesting actors of his generation. With them, as usual with this franchise, there was an awesome cast (Josh Brolin, Glenn Close, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Thomas Haden Church, Jeffrey Wright, Mila Kunis) but there you had the first issue with this movie. While we spend a good amount of time with Father Jud and get to know him fairly well, all the other characters were pretty much reduced to some window dressing, which was rather surprising with a running time reaching 150 mins. As a result, you wonder what was Wicks’s intentions after all and what was going on exactly with his parishioners. Sure, it was more or less explained but we spend too much time with Jud and not enough with the rest of them after all. Concerning the murder mystery, it was really entertaining but I have to admit that the resolution felt rather anti-climatic (I also think I should have figured out most of it way before that but I guess I’m not smart enough) but I think it had to do with the fact that I wasn’t invested enough in the characters involved. Anyway, to conclude, in spite of its flaws, I really enjoyed the damned thing and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
