I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since it had been fairly well received and since it was available on Netflix, I thought I might as well check it out. Well, to be honest, I was actually rather disappointed by the damned thing after all. I mean, I really liked Keke Palmer and SZA, they were both quite charismatic and entertaining and they had some nice chemistry together. Unfortunately, they were pretty much the only interesting things in this movie, I’m afraid. Let’s start with the plot. Basically, you spend the whole day with them while they try to find some money to pay their rent and there was also this big job interview one of them had to go to. Well, as far as I was concerned, this was super generic and hardly entertaining after all. Furthermore, I wish they went for something more realistic than looking for 1500 dollars during half a day, it would have been more relatable. The fact that they actually managed several times to secure this money and, each time, lose it again in some rather far-fetched ways probably didn’t help. The bottom line was that, even though the two main characters and their environment were compelling, I didn’t care much about the plot who was never realistic and I wish they didn’t constantly reach for some cheap easy quick jokes. Finally, while I really like these 2 girls, all the supporting characters were just barely developed at all and none of them was really interesting and/or entertaining. The worst one was probably their new neighbor played by Maude Apatow. Seriously, she had no personality whatsoever and was added only as a plot device. Anyway, to conclude, my review might seem harsh, I have to admit that the damned thing was harmless and I still think it is worth a look, at least, if you like the genre.
