To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since there was a decent cast involved, I thought I might as well check it out. In fact, I did see the original Dutch version more than a decade ago and I was always eager to check this US remake but, somehow, it took me much longer than expected. Well, I still think that it is a really cool concept, to focus only on 2 characters who seem to have nothing in common going into a very deep interview, instead of the shallow stuff we always get in the media. Unfortunately, even though the Dutch version was solid, it didn’t really impress me but this US remake turned out to be even less satisfying. The main issue was that the two main characters were so unlikeable and, at the same time, too shallow and hysteric. The worst one was not the vapid famous soap actress played by Sienna Miller but the journalist played by Steve Buscemi. Seriously, what a douchebag… On the other hand, the actress character was more balanced as, even though she often seemed rather shallow and fake, there were other moments during which she seemed to be actually fairly down-to-earth and even rather friendly. It doesn’t mean that she was ever really interesting though. Indeed, the characters and their conversation were so toxic, it was borderline cringe-inducing to behold. It’s too bad because I actually really liked the concept. At least, the cast was pitch perfect. Indeed, Buscemi has always been a fine actor and he delivered here a solid performance, it’s not his fault that his character was awful most of the time. Casting Sienna Miller was also really neat because, only a few years before, nobody was talking about her acting skills and only about her love affair with Jude Law. Anyway, to conclude, even though it could have been so much better, it was still a decent watch though and I think it is worth a look.
