A good movie

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from this flick but, since it had been rather well received and since it was available on Disney+, I thought I might as well check it out. Not to be confused with ‘Predator: Badlands’ which will be another installment also released in 2025 and also directed by Dan Trachtenberg. Jezzzz…. For years, not much was going with this franchise but this guy delivered 3 movies in 3 years (see also ‘Prey’ released in 2022). Anyway, I have to admit that this animated feature turned out to be really solid, in fact, it is easily one of the best installments. To be honest, I have to admit that I completely forgot that it was actually an anthology (you have basically 3 segments and a conclusion) but, even though this format was not bad, I think I would have preferred a movie focusing on one of these tales, especially the two first ones involving a female Viking warrior and a Japanese samurai. That’s actually the best way to handle this franchise, like they already did with ‘Prey’, which is to go in the past and see a Predator dueling with someone really skilled because, if you set the action nowadays or in the future, then you get modern firearms or even more advanced weaponry making the battles immediately less interesting. Sure, it did work fine with ‘Predator’ but it was because it was the first movie, you can’t really repeat that time and time again. Concerning the 3rd segment, it was nice that they went for something completely different with a Predator getting involved in some dogfights but, eventually, Torres was the least interesting of these 3 characters. I mean, it doesn’t matter how you put it, the guy was maybe clever but he wasn’t a warrior so I don’t feel he really belonged in this story. Concerning the final act, of course, it was really cool to have them all brought together but the end-result was unfortunately generic and predictable. Anyway, to conclude, even if it could have been even better, I actually really enjoyed the damned thing and it is definitely worth a look, especially if you like the genre.
