An average movie

I did notice that this sequel didn’t get much love when it was released so I had some rather low expectations but, since it was directed by David Gordon Green, I thought I might as well check it out anyway. To be honest, I have to admit that it didn’t remember much about the previous instalment, except that I did enjoy it and that it had been fairly successful (it was even the most successful Halloween movie ever released at the box office). Well, probably because I didn’t expect much about it and probably because I saw only a few weeks ago the really abysmal ‘The Exorcist: Believer’, Green’s next disastrous attempt to relaunch a huge horror franchise, I didn’t think that this movie was so bad though. This time, they started right after the end of the previous movie. I actually did remember that they ended with a big fire which was supposed to kill Michael Myers but, obviously, he did survive and, right away, he started to kill a bunch of people and pretty much didn’t stop until the end. At least, you didn’t spend 30 mins with some slow introduction to show the town, its inhabitants and the ominous menace. By now, we know the drill so we might as well start right away with some good old slasher action. Seriously, what a bloodbath though… How many people did he kill eventually in this installment? 20? 30? It was quite relentless and some of the kills were pretty gnarly. Concerning Jamie Lee Curtis, like in ‘Halloween II’ (the one released in 1981), she also ended up in the hospital following the events of the previous movie but, in contrary to ‘Halloween II’ and to what all the characters involved kept saying, Michael Myers actually never showed up to kill Laurie so Curtis didn’t get much to do after all. Seriously, she was recovering in her bed, got out, ruptured her stitches and went back to bed, that’s it, she didn’t do anything else. Anyway, to conclude, even though my rating might be too generous here, I thought it was a decent watch and, in my opinion, it is worth a look, at least, if you like the genre.
